Jointly
sponsored by the Collaboration for Maternal & Newborn
Health (CMNH), the BC Ministry of Health, BC Women’s
Hospital and the BC Perinatal Health Program (BCPHP, formerly
the BC Reproductive Care Program).
Objectives of the conference:
- To present and disseminate
the report of the BC Perinatal Health Program Cesarean Birth
Task Force Report.
- To present and discuss evidence
regarding the trends, risks and benefits of cesarean birth.
- To present and discuss evidence
of how cesarean birth rates can be reduced.
- To discuss collaboration at
the local, regional, and provincial levels, to deliver optimal
maternity care for all women of British Columbia.
- To discuss a public information
strategy to assure that BC Women and their families have
the best possible information regarding reproductive and
maternity care.
- To reach a consensus on moving
toward the optimal use of cesarean birth in BC
A panel of 16 selected
experts in their fields listened to two days of presentations,

2. What are the roles
of caregivers in optimizing cesarean birth in British Columbia?
3. What support is required
from government, health authorities, hospitals and the BCPHP
to optimize the cesarean birth rate across British Columbia?
4. What is an appropriate
